Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

FORT WAYNE, Indiana - TinCaps shortstop Gabriel Arias reached base three times on Saturday night at Parkview Field, but Fort Wayne fell to the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians), 9-3.

Lake County (2-0) started the scoring in the second inning. After a throwing error by starting pitcher Mason Thompson, the Captains capitalized with two runs in the inning and led, 2-0.

Fort Wayne (0-2) responded with a run in the bottom of the second inning. After Arias walked to start the inning, Luis Campusano, in his first start as the TinCaps catcher, lined a ball off the right field wall to score Arias from first base, cutting the Lake County lead, 2-1.

The Captains added more runs between the third and fourth inning to take a sizable lead, 8-1.

The lead proved to be too much for the TinCaps even after scoring a run in each of the next two innings.

TinCaps pitching overall tallied 13 strikeouts on the night, including six in 3 1/3 innings in relief from 21-year-old Adrian Martinez in his Fort Wayne debut.
