Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Fort Wayne -- The TinCaps extended their longest winning streak of the season to eight Monday night at Parkview Field, demolishing the Dayton Dragons, 14-4. While the offense used 15 hits to score in five of the eight innings it came to bat, starting pitcher Justin Hancock extended his personal scoreless innings streak to 13. The winning streak is the team's longest since August 2-August 9, 2010, when the team won eight straight games.
Fort Wayne (39-25) wasted no time in generating offense against Dayton (26-37) starter Drew Cisco (2-4). The TinCaps scored once in the first inning and struck thrice times in the second. Of the first four runs, one was plated on an error and two came in on wild pitches. However, in the third frame, the TinCaps' bats began to blister. Fort Wayne sent 10 men to the plate and scored six times. Rodney Daal knocked home a pair with a double, followed by an RBI-double for Corey Adamson. Dane Phillips offered an exclamation point of sorts with a three-run double that made it 10-0.
The TinCaps added two more in the sixth and tacked on another pair in the eighth. Diego Goris led the offense with a team-high four hits, while Adamson and Chris Burke both helped to key the offense with three-hit games.
On the mound for Fort Wayne, Hancock scattered four hits and three walks to improve to 4-1 on the year. Although he allowed four runs in the ninth, reliever Joe Church tossed three innings to register the first save of his professional career.
With the victory, the TinCaps, who have won 14 of their last 15, increased their lead to six games over the Bowling Green Hot Rods in the Eastern Division wild-card standings. Fort Wayne's "magic number" to clinch a playoff berth for the season's first half is down to two. That means with the combination of a TinCaps win and a Hot Rods loss, or two of either, the TinCaps will clinch a spot in September's playoffs.
After finishing a three-game sweep of Dayton, Fort Wayne stays at home Tuesday to welcome the Lake County Captains for a three-game series. The TinCaps send Zach Eflin (2-4, 3.65) to the hill against Lake County's Ryan Merritt. The game can be seen on XFINITY Channel 81 and heard on The Fan 1380, as well as TheFanFortWayne.com.
