LANSING, Mich. - Lansing Lugnuts pitcher Kramer Champlin who came one out from hurling the first perfect game in team history, settling for a one-hit gem, has been honored as the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for June 3rd-9th.

The 23-year-old right-hander is the first Lugnuts player honored with an MWL weekly award in 2013.

Champlin remarkably retired 31 of 32 total batters faced during the week, 14 by strikeout, in the span of two relief appearances and one masterful start.

His near record-breaking achievement occurred in Game 2 of a Saturday doubleheader at West Michigan. Champlin set down the first 20 batters before a Devon Travis bouncer eluded shortstop Emilio Guerrero, supplying the Whitecaps' only baserunner. The Arizona State product finished with a one-hit, 10-strikeout shutout in a 2-0 Lugnuts win.

In his second year in the Midwest League, Kramer Champlin is 3-1 with a 3.13 ERA, 34 strikeouts and just six walks allowed in 31 2/3 innings.
