Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

LANSING, Mich. - The TinCaps lambasted the Lansing Lugnuts (Oakland A's affiliate), 11-6, on Sunday afternoon at Jackson Field. With the win, Fort Wayne earned a split of the six-game road series. The 'Caps tied a season high for hits with 17, as all nine batters in the order tallied at least one knock.

Fort Wayne (23-19, 55-53) overcame an early 3-0 deficit thanks to a six-run third inning.

Lansing (17-25, 48-59) had taken the quick lead with two outs in the first on a three-run homer by right fielder Colby Thomas (No. 19 A's prospect).

Center fielder Jakob Marsee (No. 12 Padres prospect) got the TinCaps on the scoreboard in third with an RBI single. He finished with three hits and a walk. Marsee leads the Midwest League in on-base percentage (.412). That mark is currently the third highest in a season in Fort Wayne's 30-year franchise history. (Jaff Decker posted a .442 OBP at the Single-A level in 2009 as a budding big leaguer.)

Shortstop Nerwilian Cedeño (No. 27 Padres prospect), left fielder Graham Pauley (No. 11 Padres prospect), third baseman Lucas Dunn, and designated hitter Carlos Luis also added run-scoring hits in that frame.

First baseman Nathan Martorella (No. 10 Padres prospect) joined the act in the fourth with a two-out RBI double that made it 7-3.

The 'Caps tacked on three more in the sixth as Martorella drew a bases-loaded walk and Dunn provided a two-run single. Like Marsee, he totaled three hits.

While the Lugnuts scored a run in the sixth, the TinCaps got it back in the eighth on another Pauley RBI single to go up, 11-4. Lansing plated a pair in the ninth for naught.

Fort Wayne previously recorded 17 hits in their win on April 15 against Lake County.

On a Johnny Wholestaff day, Carter Loewen earned the win on the mound, throwing a career-long 3 1/3 innings with no earned runs.

The TinCaps trail the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers affiliate) by a half game in the East Division's second-half standings.

Next Game: Tuesday, Aug. 15 vs. Dayton (6:35 p.m.)

TinCaps Probable Starter: LHP Robby Snelling (No. 3 Padres prospect)

Dragons Probable Starter: RHP Kevin Abel
