Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers) in the last game of a six-game series.

Last Game: Saturday: Dayton 5, Wisconsin 3. The Dragons earned their third straight win and took over sole possession of first place. Mat Nelson hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie. Edwin Arroyo had three hits including a triple and double. Reliever John Murphy retired all 10 batters he faced with five strikeouts to earn the win. The Dragons had seven extra base hits, one short of their season high.

Current Series (August 8-13 at Wisconsin): Dayton is 3-2 in the series.

The Dragons are in first place, one-half game ahead of West Michigan and one game ahead of Fort Wayne in the East Division. To reach the playoffs, the Dragons must win the division title in the second half (or finish second in the second half if Great Lakes wins the second half title).

Since August 4, the Dragons lead the league in runs scored (43 in 8 games), team batting average (.271), home runs (10), walks (37), OPS (.837), slugging percentage (.478), and doubles (24). The Dragons have had at least 10 hits in four straight games for the first time in 2023.

Player Notes

Jack Rogers in his last 13 games is batting .362, collecting four home runs, two triples, four doubles, 15 RBI, while slugging .787. His 1.242 OPS since July 28 is fifth among all Minor League players below the Triple-A level (90 teams) and first among High-A players.

Edwin Arroyo in his last 25 games (since the MLB all-star break on July 14) is hitting .337 with 15 RBI, 18 walks, 16 strikeouts, and 14 stolen bases with an OPS of 1.007. Arroyo since May 31 has played in 59 games and is batting .305 with six home runs, 22 stolen bases, and an .902 OPS, raising his average from .182 to .257.

Sal Stewart since joining the Dragons has appeared in five games, going 8 for 20 (.400) with one double.

Mat Nelson in August is batting .286 with four home runs and a .928 OPS.
