Timbers' record in MLS season openers

Since joining MLS in 2011, the Timbers have posted a record of 3-2-3 in season-opening matches, winning two of their last three games to start the season. Saturday's match marks the third time in nine seasons the Timbers have opened the campaign on the road (2011, 2018, 2019). Additionally, Portland opens the campaign on the road against Colorado for the second time in club history as the Timbers played their first MLS match on March 19, 2011.

Facing the Rapids

Saturday's match is the 21st all-time meeting between Portland and Colorado. The Timbers lead the all-time series with a record of 10-7-3 and are unbeaten in their last three matches (3-0-0) against the Rapids. In those three matches, the Timbers have outscored Colorado 7-3, posting a 3-2 win in the club's last meeting at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on May 26, 2018. Notably, Sebastián Blanco has registered five assists in four matches against Colorado, while Diego Valeri has recorded six goals in 12 career matches against the Rapids.

Extended road trip

Saturday's match against Colorado marks the first of 12 games on the road for the Timbers, as the club opens its ninth season in MLS. The Timbers' 12-game road trip to start the 2019 season is due to completion work on the $85 million transformation of Providence Park. During that stretch, the Timbers will travel roughly 30,000 miles, including trips to Cincinnati, Dallas, Columbus, Toronto, Houston and Philadelphia.

Portland concluded its preseason campaign on Feb. 23, earning a 3-0 win against Real Salt Lake in its final match of the Mobile Mini Sun Cup in Tucson. Playing a total of six preseason matches, including two matches in Costa Rica and four in Tucson, the Timbers tallied 14 goals, receiving goals from nine different players.
