Jozy Altidore Signs Extension with Toronto FC

Toronto FC announced today that forward Jozy Altidore has signed a three-year contract extension keeping him with Toronto FC through the 2022 season. Altidore will remain a Designated Player.

"This is my family, this club and this city," said Toronto FC forward Jozy Altidore. "The fans, from the first day, they accepted me, they gave me the right to show what I'm all about, and they took me in. We've built something great together and I'm really eager to see what's to come."

Altidore, 29, is currently in his fifth season with Toronto FC after originally joining on January 16, 2015 from English club, Sunderland A.F.C. Altidore has made 114 appearances with 60 goals and 20 assists with TFC across all competitions (MLS, MLS Cup Playoffs, Concacaf Champions League, Canadian Championship and Campeones Cup). He was part of Toronto FC's 2017 "Treble" winning side, won two additional Canadian Championships (2016, 2018), two Eastern Conference Championships (2016, 2017) and reached the final of the 2018 Concacaf Champions League. Altidore scored two of the biggest goals in club history during the 2017 MLS Cup playoffs. He scored the series clinching goal against Columbus Crew SC in the second leg of the 2017 Eastern Conference finals and the winning goal against Seattle Sounders FC in the 67th minute of the 2017 MLS Cup, where Altidore earned MLS Cup MVP honours. Altidore has also been named to two MLS All-Star games (2015, 2017).

"Jozy has been a big part of the organization and the new contract ensures that he will remain with the club for years to come. While it is important to make changes to your roster in different moments, continuity is also a critical component to successful organizations," said Toronto FC General Manager Ali Curtis. "Jozy is an excellent player and he is capable of playing an enormous role in leading our club to success. On a professional level, I am looking forward to working with Jozy, but on personal level, I'm looking forward to getting to know him for the person that he has developed into."

Altidore currently ranks second on TFC's all-time goals scored list with 60 and eighth on the all-time combined appearances list with 114. He is one of nine players to have made at least 100 appearances for TFC. During his career, Altidore has earned 110 caps and scored 41 goals for the United States Men's National team. He was part of the U.S. winning side in the 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup and is a two-time U.S. Soccer Male Athlete of the Year (2013, 2016).

"Jozy expressed his desire to be here and the feeling was mutual. Our fans here love him and I hope he'll wear a TFC jersey for the rest of his career," said Toronto FC President Bill Manning. "Since coming to Toronto, Jozy has helped TFC win multiple championships, scoring so many clutch goals, including the biggest goal in our club's history. We look forward to more great moments."
