
Timbers' Songo'o Called up by Cameroon National Team

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers today announced that midfielder Franck Songo'o has been called up by the Cameroon National Team for a friendly against the Albania National Team on Wednesday, Nov. 14, in Geneva, Switzerland.
Cameroon will play Albania at Stade de Genève as the team prepares for upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March of 2013. Songo'o will join the Cameroon National Team ahead of the match on Sunday, Nov. 11, in Switzerland.
A native of Yaoundé, Cameroon, Songo'o, 25, made his debut with the senior Cameroon National Team in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde on Sept. 6, 2008. He first represented Cameroon in the Beijing 2008 Olympics, helping the team go unbeaten in group play and reach the tournament quarterfinal.
Songo'o started his international career in the youth system of the France National Team as a member of the U-17 and U-19 player pools. He was a member of the France U-17 National Team that won the 2003-04 UEFA European U-17 Championship.
In his first season with the Timbers in 2012, Songo'o played in 27 matches, scoring one goal and ranking among team leaders with five assists. He led the team with a pair of game-winning assists and his goal was the game-winning strike in a win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Aug. 25 at JELD-WEN Field.
