Timbers Sign Free Agent Defender Eric Miller

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers today announced that the club has signed free agent defender Eric Miller to a one-year deal with a club option for the 2024 season.

Miller, 30, joins the Timbers ahead of the 2023 campaign after spending the past three seasons with Nashville SC. In the 2022 campaign, Miller played in 24 matches, starting 14 for Nashville. Across his nine-year career, the veteran defender has made 165 MLS appearances (136 starts), including playoffs.

Originally drafted by the Montreal Impact as the fifth overall pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, Miller brings with him a wealth of experience, having multiyear stints with the Impact (2014-15), Colorado Rapids (2016-17), Minnesota United (2018-19), New York City FC (2019) and Nashville (2020-22). A Woodbury, Minnesota native, Miller began his professional career in the USL second division semi-pro league with the Portland Timbers U23s in 2012 while attending and playing for Creighton University.

The Timbers are set to kick off the 2023 season with their home opener against Sporting Kansas City on Monday, Feb. 27, at Providence Park. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (Pacific) and will stream live on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app in English and Spanish.
