SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes will open the 2023 Major League Soccer season against Atlanta United FC at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia today at 4:30 p.m. PT. San Jose's first regular season match of 2023 will be streamed globally on Apple TV's MLS Season Pass, as well as on local radio via 810 AM The Spread (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).

First-year head coach Luchi Gonzalez enters the season with key additions to the squad, including midfielder Carlos Gruezo and defender Jonathan Mensah. Gruezo helped FC Dallas win a Supporters' Shield and U.S. Open Cup championship before spending the past three and a half seasons in Germany. Mensah captained the Columbus Crew to an MLS Cup championship in 2020 and was a Best XI selection that season. The Quakes also return every key member of their attack, including Jeremy Ebobisse, Cristian Espinoza, and Cade Cowell, which ranked top-10 in MLS in goals scored last season.

The Earthquakes face Atlanta for the first time since 2019, and are looking to start the season with three points on the road ahead of their home opener against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on March 4, presented by Coca-Cola. Today's match is San Jose's fourth all-time meeting with Atlanta United FC, and third on the road.

Atlanta is led by Argentine midfielder Thiago Almada, who recently became the first MLS player to win the FIFA World Cup.
