
Timbers Score Club Record Seven Goals in 7-2 Win over Sporting Kansas City

PORTLAND, Ore. - Registering their 100th regular season win at Providence Park, the Portland Timbers scored a club record seven goals, including six goals in the second half, to secure a 7-2 win over Sporting Kansas City at home on Saturday night. Five different players scored goals, while five players added at least one assist in the win. Nathan Fogaça and Sebastián Blanco each added a brace, while Marvin Loría and Santiago Moreno tallied their first goals of the campaign and Bill Tuiloma recorded his third of the season. Blanco, Eryk Williamson and Cristhian Paredes each tallied a pair of assists in the win.
Double Trouble
In his MLS debut, Nathan recorded a second-half brace, earning his first start in MLS regular season play with Portland. He is the first Timbers player to score a brace in their debut with the club. Blanco scored his first two goals of the season, recording his fifth career brace in MLS, including the playoffs. Blanco, Paredes and Williamson all finished the match with two assists each. It was Blanco's fourth career multi-assist game with Portland, marking the third time he has registered two assists in a match at Providence Park. For Williamson it was his second career match with two assists.
Firsts and Debuts
Blanco, Fogaça, Loría and Moreno all recorded their first goals of the 2022 season. Diego Chara, Paredes and Williamson added their first assists of the campaign. It also marked the first time Paredes has recorded multiple assists in a match for the Timbers. Along with Fogaça making his debut, Timbers homegrown Tega Ikoba made his MLS debut in the match, logging 20 minutes in the second half.
Goal-Scoring Records
Portland set a club record with seven goals in the match. The Timbers scored seven goals on 11 shots - the fewest shots by an MLS team in a match in which they scored seven or more goals. It was the 10th time an MLS team has scored seven goals in a match all time. The MLS record for most goals scored in a game by a single team was set by LA Galaxy, winning 8-1 over Dallas on June 4, 1988. Prior to tonight's match, the most goals Portland had tallied in a match was six. The Timbers have scored at least six goals on four separate occasions since the start of the 2020 season.
Goal-Scoring Plays
POR - Bill Tuiloma (Eryk Williamson), 12th minute: Off a free kick from the right wing, Eryk Williamson delivered a pinpoint ball to the center of the box for Bill Tuiloma, who unleashed a powerful header from eight yards out past a diving Tim Melia.
POR - Sebastián Blanco (Cristhian Paredes), 46th minute: Williamson dribbled down the left side to the end line before playing a ball back to the top of the box for Cristhian Paredes, who played a perfectly-weighted volley to Sebastián Blanco. Making a late run into the box, Blanco sent a curling strike from the center of the box into the bottom right corner of the goal.
POR - Sebastián Blanco (Yimmi Chara), 52nd minute: On the counter-attack, Diego Chara won the ball near the left sideline and played it to Yimmi Chara, who sent a quick pass into space for Blanco making a run down the left side. Blanco dribbled into the box and fired the ball inside the right post.
POR - Nathan Fogaça (Sebastián Blanco), 56th minute: Blanco received the ball near midfield and dribbled down the left side of the field, slotting a ball into space for Nathan as he made a run in behind the SKC backline. Nathan received the pass and on the turn converted with a tidy finish from a tight angle inside the box past an onrushing Melia.
SKC - Johnny Russell (Felipe Hernandez), 57th minute: Felipe Hernandez played a long-distance cross from the left wing to the back post for Johnny Russell, who converted from close range near the right post.
POR - Nathan Fogaça (Sebastián Blanco, Eryk Williamson), 69th minute: Inside the box, Williamson laid the ball off for Blanco as he made a run into the box. Blanco sent a cross into the center of the box for Nathan, who finished from close range.
SKC - Marinos Tzionis (Felipe Hernandez), 75th minute: Hernandez served a free kick from just outside the box on the left side and Marinos Tzionis made a darting run to the near post, flicking the ball into the goal with a quick header from inside the six-yard box.
POR - Marvin Loría (Cristhian Paredes), 88th minute: SKC attempted to clear the ball from their box, but Paredes intercepted the pass and played it to Loría running down the right side of the box. Loría turned and fired a shot into the top right corner of the goal.
POR - Santiago Moreno, (Diego Chara), 90+2 minute: Diego Chara played a long ball into space for Santiago Moreno, who surged past a Kansas City defender and dribbled around Melia before finishing from the edge of the six-yard box.
Notes
The Timbers registered their 100th MLS regular season win at Providence Park.
Portland set a club record with seven goals scored in the match.
The Timbers are unbeaten against Sporting KC in seven straight matches (W4, D3), including MLS playoffs, dating back to Nov. 25, 2018.
Bill Tuiloma tallied his third goal of the season. He is tied for the team lead in goals with Jaroslaw Niezgoda and Yimmi Chara.
Four of Tuiloma's seven career goals in MLS have been headed goals.
Tuiloma has scored in three of the last four home games for the Timbers.
Sebastián Blanco tallied his first two goals of the season.

Six Timbers have scored two or more goals this season - Blanco (2) Tuiloma (3), Niezgoda (3), Y. Chara (3), Fogaça (2) and Dairon Asprilla (2).
Blanco registered two assists to bring his season total to four assists. He is tied for the team lead with Y. Chara.
With his two assists, Blanco recorded his fourth career multi-assist game.
Nathan earned his first career MLS start in the match, logging 70 minutes.
Nathan became the first Timbers player to record a brace in his MLS debut.
Eryk Williamson recorded his first two assists of the 2022 campaign.
Williamson registered his second career multi-assist game.
Cristhian Paredes posted his first career multi-assist game, registering his first two assists of the campaign.
Paredes and Williamson are the fourth and fifth players to tally two or more assist for Portland in 2022 - Y. Chara (4), Blanco (4), Moreno (2), Paredes (2) and Williamson (2).
Yimmi Chara registered his fourth assist of the season. His four assists is tied for the team lead with Blanco.
Diego Chara added his first assist of the 2022 season. He is the seventh player to record an assist for Portland this campaign.
Marvin Loría and Santiago Moreno scored their first goals of the season.
Moreno's goal was his first in MLS regular season play.
Tega Ikoba made his MLS debut in the match, playing 20 minutes as a substitute.
Portland is one of four teams in MLS this season to have three players with at least three goals each (CF Montreal, D.C. United, LAFC).
Eight different players have scored goals for the Timbers in 2022.
Seven different players have tallied an assist for Portland this season.
