May 15, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - Atlanta United FC News Release

ATLANTA -Atlanta United played New England Revolution to a 2-2 draw in front of 42,516 fans at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Thiago Almada and Luiz Araújo each scored for the second straight match while Atlanta created 18 chances to New England's 11, however was unable to break a deadlock that lasted the final 30 minutes of the match.

Atlanta almost opened the scoring in the 11th minute after Andrew Gutman earned a free kick on the edge of the New England penalty area. Almada took the set piece, stinging the palms of a diving Matt Turner.

Almada netted the game's first goal in the 15th minute. Following an Atlanta corner kick, Araújo attempted a cross into the visitor's box which took a deflection before it was touched down by Almada. The Argentinian midfielder curled a shot to Turner's left for his second of the 2022 MLS campaign.

New England equalized in the 30th minute through Adam Buksa. Carles Gil made an incisive pass from the left flank to find the Polish striker in Atlanta's box. Using his left foot, Buksa finished from a tight angle to beat Bobby Shuttleworth.

Buksa took the lead for the Revolution in the 55th minute. Sebastian Lletget found the striker with a pass over the top of the Atlanta back line. Taking his first touch off his chest, Buksa roofed his shot for the brace.

Atlanta's attacking midfielders manufactured an equalizer in the 63rd minute. With forward play progressing down the right flank for the hosts, Marcelino Moreno worked the ball into the Revolution's penalty area for Almada, who flicked a pass through the defense to find the run of Araújo. The Brazilian took the shot first time with his right foot, finding the upper left-hand corner of the net.

Atlanta returns to action Saturday, May 21 when it visits Nashville SC at Geodis Park (7:30 p.m. EST, FOX/FOX Deportes, 92.9 The Game, La Mejor).
