Inter Miami drew 2-2 in a tough clash against D.C. United on Saturday at DRV PNK Stadium. Defender Damion Lowe scored his first MLS goal, which also marked midfielder Jean Mota's first assist for the club.
After the match Lowe spoke about the importance of his first goal and the positive mentality that is growing within the squad.
"I have scored goals like that, similar. I have been working hard at practice all week on set pieces. I was well rested coming into this game, so I got the chance to really sharpen up and get ready for the game. For me, it's my signature, just checking behind the defender and coming in his blind side. I was happy to be able to get on the score sheet," expressed Lowe.
"We didn't settle. We worked hard. We fought really hard till the end to get those three points. For us, it's a never-say-die mentality. You see myself and all the other players fighting hard regardless of the scoreline. Even when we are down two, three goals. We work hard and fight. We are never settling. Again, we tied the game but we didn't settle. Nobody, and I can speak for my teammates, no one walked off the field thinking we settled."
Head Coach Phil Neville reiterated the Jamaican national thoughts, highlighting the growing momentum and confidence.
"The disappointment is that we didn't get the victory we thought we deserved, and that hurts a little bit because we thought our performance deserved that, but we're getting a nice little run going. We feel as if we're building some momentum at home and competence at home, the players are playing with a lot of confidence. And it just feels disappointing that we just didn't get the rewards that we thought we deserved," said Neville. "But we move on very quickly, we got a game Wednesday, a big game against Philadelphia away."
Inter Miami will prepare for another two-game week against Philadelphia Union on Wednesday, May 18 and New York Red Bulls on Sunday, May 22.
