Timbers Host Sporting Kansas City in 2023 Season Opener at Providence Park Tonight

The Portland Timbers will host Sporting Kansas City in their 2023 season opener tonight, Monday, Feb. 27 at Providence Park. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (Pacific) and will stream live on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app in English and Spanish with local radio broadcasts on 750 The Game (English) and La GranD 1150AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).

Portland's home opener tonight marks the 20th regular season meeting between Portland and Sporting Kansas City in MLS competition. Portland trails overall in the series with a 6-8-6 record but has the edge with a mark of 5-4-2 when playing at Providence Park. In the last matchup between the two sides at Providence Park, Portland beat Sporting 7-2 on May 14, 2022, the most goals Portland has scored in a match in its MLS history. In the historic win, five different players scored goals, while five players added at least one assist in the win. Notably, dating back to its inaugural MLS campaign in 2011, the Timbers have posted a record of 6-2-4 in home openers.
