
Earthquakes Announce Week of Events Ahead of 2023 Home Opener

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes will celebrate the start of the 2023 MLS season with a week of fan-engaging events leading up to the home opener on Saturday, March 4 vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC, presented by Coca-Cola. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. PT. The campaign will include fun activities, opportunities to win tickets, a Season Hype Party, player appearances, and much more.
Below is a daily schedule of all the events from Monday, Feb. 27 to Saturday, March 4:
Monday, Feb. 27
QUAKE IT UP (ALL DAY) - The Quakes' Street Team will take to the streets to engage the local community by bringing giveaways and game-related items directly to businesses throughout the South Bay.
Tuesday, Feb. 28
QUAKE IT UP AT SAN PEDRO SQUARE (5-7 P.M.) - The Quakes' Street Team will be in San Pedro Square to promote the home opener by giving away merchandise and game-related items to local businesses.
MARTHA'S KITCHEN SERVICE (7-9 A.M.): The Quakes Front Office will participate in a community meal-packing event at Martha's Kitchen in San Jose. Fans interested in participating in future community service events can email Communityrelations@sjearthquakes.com for more information.
Wednesday, March 1
SOCCER WITH TOMMY THOMPSON (4-6 P.M.) - Quakes defender Tommy Thompson will be at the Quakes Team Store at PayPal Park for a meet-and-greet on Wednesday. He will also be challenging fans to juggling contests, with winners earning prizes like home opener tickets and MLS Season Pass subscriptions. Thompson and Quakes legend Shea Salinas will also host a kickaround for kids at the team's Thrive Court at the stadium. The Quakes Team Store will be open during the event for fans to purchase the new 2023 Active Fault primary jersey.
Thursday, March 2
QUAKES SEASON HYPE PARTY (6-9 P.M.) - The club will host the 2023 Season Hype Party at Blanco Urban Venue in Downtown San Jose on Thursday, March 2. The event will feature meet-and-greet opportunities with Quakes players, including Designated Player Carlos Gruezo, 2020 MLS Cup champion Jonathan Mensah, U.S. Men's National Team forward Cade Cowell, and head coach Luchi Gonzalez, an unveiling of the club's all-new magazine, 2003 MLS Cup Championship alumni presence, raffles and prizes, live music from DJ Ivy, and more. Friday, March 3
MEET-AND-GREET AT TACOMANIA (2-3:30 P.M.) - Earthquakes defender Daniel Munie will participate in a meet-and-greet at Tacomania (2455 Stevens Creek Blvd.) in San Jose, and fans who are dressed in Quakes gear will be able to purchase $2 tacos. The Quakes' Street Team will also be on-site to hand out giveaways, including MLS Season Pass subscriptions and home opener tickets.
Saturday, March 4
HOME OPENER (7:30 P.M.) - The Earthquakes will host Vancouver Whitecaps FC in their 2023 home opener at PayPal Park, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (tickets here ). Below are the key stories to know for the match:
Renewed Pre-match Experience: Fans are encouraged arrive early and be in their seats to take part in the Quakes' pre-kickoff show. The pre-match experience will have new features, including an Earthquakes siren set to go off during player walkouts, new in stadium graphics and other on field additions.
New Supporters Section: PayPal Park will debut its brand-new Supporters Section located at the south end of the stadium. The standing-only section, the new home for the San Jose Ultras, starts at field level and extends to the top of the seating bowl in sections 117 and 118. Fans interested in joining the Supporters Section can get more information here.
2003 Championship Celebration: The match will also serve as a 20-year celebration for the 2003 MLS Cup championship squad, with more than 20 former members of the team scheduled to attend. Ten thousand fans in attendance will receive a 2003 replica shersey. Special merchandise will also be available for sale, including an exclusive commemorative t-shirt.
