PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers will host Real Salt Lake in the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 on May 10 at Providence Park, U.S. Soccer announced today. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. (Pacific) and broadcast details are to be announced at a later date. Tickets to the match will be available for purchase on Wednesday, May 3 at 12 p.m. (Pacific) at www.timbers.com/tickets/.

Portland has faced Salt Lake in the competition twice before - a 2-0 loss in the 2015 fifth round and a 2-1 loss in the 2013 semifinals. With both previous meetings being played on the road, the Timbers will host RSL in Open Cup play at Providence Park for the first time. In 36 matches across all competitions, Portland has a record of 13-14-9 against RSL and 7-3-7 when playing them at home.

The Timbers advanced to the 2023 U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 with a 3-1 victory over USL Championship-side Orange County SC on Wednesday night at Providence Park. Marvin Loría, Tyler Clegg and Jaroslaw Niezgoda registered goals to help Portland to its third-round match victory. The match marked Portland's 36th match in Open Cup play, dating back to 2004. The Timbers have a record of 20-16-0 in the competition and are 10-7-0 when playing at home. Prior to the match against Orange County, Portland's last 15-straight Open Cup matches were against an MLS opponent, earning a mark of 8-7-0 in that stretch.

The Round of 32 welcomes the final eight, higher-seeded Division I (MLS) clubs to the competition where they will face the 24 winners from the Third Round, which saw 16 clubs from MLS and eight USL Championship (Div. II) teams survive the rigors of America's oldest soccer competition.

In its 108th edition, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup - U.S. Soccer's National Championship - has crowned a champion since 1914 in every year except 2020 and 2021. The history-filled tournament is conducted on a single-game-knockout basis and open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. In 1999, the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States was renamed to honor American soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.

The 2023 U.S. Open Cup winner will earn $300,000 in prize money, a berth in the 2024 Concacaf Champions League and have its name engraved on the Dewar Challenge Trophy - one of the oldest nationally-contested trophies in American team sports - now on permanent display at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Frisco, Texas. Additionally, the runner-up will earn $100,000.
