LAFC to Face Monterey Bay FC on May 9 in Round of 32 of 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup
April 27, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Los Angeles FC News Release
The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) will kick off the 2023 edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament in the Round of 32 on the road against United Soccer League (USL) side Monterey Bay FC. The match is scheduled for May 9 at 7:30 p.m. PT at the recently renovated Cardinale Stadium on California's Central Coast.
The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest national soccer tournament in the United States. The single elimination tournament features professional, semi-professional, and amateur teams competing for the prestigious U.S. Open Cup title and an automatic berth in next year's Concacaf Champions League tournament. This year's competition began in March with 100 teams. While most MLS clubs competing in the tournament entered in the Third Round, the reigning MLS Cup Champions are automatically seeded into the Round of 32.
This is the fourth time LAFC will compete in the U.S. Open Cup competition. The Club's best performance in the tournament came in 2018 when they advanced into the semifinal round.
