Minnesota United Loans Forward Tani Oluwaseyi to San Antonio FC

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Minnesota United announced today that the club will loan forward Tani Oluwaseyi to San Antonio FC of the USL Championship for the remainder of the 2023 season with the right to recall Oluwaseyi at any time throughout the duration of the loan.

"When I look at the last two years with Tani, he's had his last year in college - he had a serious knee injury - and last year he was in and out and never got in a groove, and now he's fit and healthy. We want to try and put him in the best competition that he can be in, to play regularly, and that is the USL first division," said MNUFC Head Coach Adrian Heath. "San Antonio are last year's champions, great environment, a good crowd and a proper stadium. We feel we'll get a better idea and a better picture of what we've got with Tani when he's playing consistently and this is the best route for him at this moment in time. We still have high hopes of him and think there's something there, and this will us a clearer picture of where we think he is."

Oluwaseyi joined the Loons as the club's 2022 MLS SuperDraft selection. In his first season with Minnesota, the forward saw his playing time with MNUFC2 in MLS NEXT Pro action, making 10 game appearances, five starts and scoring two goals while provided a single assist. He was sidelined for a large portion of the season due to injury. Oluwaseyi notably made his MNUFC first team and MLS debut this season, entering as a substitute during Minnesota's Matchday 1 fixture at FC Dallas. With MNUFC2 in 2023 MLS NEXT Pro games, the forward has made three starts and has scored one goal in 261 minutes played to-date.

The Nigerian-born, Canadian national played 49 games in his four years at St. John's University, notching a total of 20 goals, with a single season-high of 11 in 2019. Despite being sidelined by a knee injury in 2021, Oluwaseyi battled back to make two appearances in the 2021 regular season finale and the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament. His junior year, Oluwaseyi was named to the First Team All-Big East and Big East Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, was on the preseason watch list for the MAC Hermann Trophy and led the team with five goals and three assists. In his best season, as a sophomore, the forward was named the Big East Offensive Player of the Year, made First Team All-Big East and his 11 goals hold the record for the highest in a season by a St. John's players since 2003.

Transaction: Minnesota United loans forward Tani Oluwaseyi to San Antonio FC of the United Soccer League (USL) Championship on a Loan Agreement for the remainder of the 2023 season. This agreement contains a right to recall the player at any time throughout the duration of the loan.
