By the Numbers: FC Cincinnati at New England Revolution
April 27, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
FC Cincinnati News Release
The Orange and Blue are back on the road, as FC Cincinnati prepare to face the New England Revolution at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 29. The matchup from Gillette Stadium will stream exclusively on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
Let's break down this matchup by the numbers, presented by CTI.
1, 2
Simple as one and two. The New England Revolution and FC Cincinnati enter Saturday not just in first and second place in the Eastern Conference, but in the MLS Supporters' Shield standings. The Revs and the Orange and Blue hold identical 6-1-2 records (20 points), but Saturday night's hosts rank in first based on a higher goal difference (+7 compared to +2).
Per Opta, Saturday's fixture is the first time in MLS history that two teams with 20 or more points have met within each team's first 10 matches of a season.
3
It's been since Matchday 3 against Seattle Sounders FC since the Orange and Blue had midfielder Yuya Kubo on the pitch in a regular season game. Pat Noonan's squad will be happy to have Kubo back in the mix, the technically-sound No. 7 has made 78 career regular season appearances with FCC, the fourth-most in club history.
Kubo has made four career appearances against the Revolution. He appeared in Wednesday night's U.S. Open Cup Third Round win over Louisville City FC as a second-half substitute.
6
The New England Revolution (4-0-2) are unbeaten in their last six games, tied with Vancouver Whitecaps FC for the second-longest active streak in MLS (LAFC - 8). FC Cincinnati will look to prevent that streak from reaching seven, FC Cincinnati's best streak of the year through the first seven matchdays of the year.
The Revs are undefeated at home this season through five games, tied with FCC among others for the longest in MLS this season.
20
FC Cincinnati defender Ray Gaddis has made 20 career regular season appearances against the New England Revolution, his most against any opponent. The longtime Philadelphia Union player has made 19 career appearances against three other clubs (CLB, MTL, RBNY), but none more than the Revolution.
22
FC Cincinnati defender Yerson Mosquera has recorded 22 interceptions, tied with four other players across MLS for the most in the league (SJ - Carlos Akapo Martinez and Rodrigues; RBNY - Andres Reyes).
As impressive as his statistic is, so too is Obinna Nwobodo's 20. Nwobodo missed two games, and is still just two interceptions off the league-lead in the category.
23
Álvaro Barreal is tied for second in MLS with 23 chances created this season. 10 of the 23 chances created have set up shots for Sergio Santos, including Cincinnati's opening goal against Portland on Saturday, the most for one teammate to another this MLS season.
291
New England Revolution Head Coach Bruce Arena, the winningest head coach in MLS history, will look to add to his MLS-record 291 coaching victories across both the regular season (256) and playoffs (35) this Saturday.
Since taking over mid-season in 2019, Arena is 5-0-1 across all competitions against Cincinnati.
