
Timbers battle to a draw

TUKWILA, Wash. - The Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps FC battled to a 1-1 draw on the second day of the Cascadia Summit at Starfire Sports Complex.
Ryan Pore scored for Portland and Vancouver equalized late in the first half on an own goal. There were a total of five bookings and 35 fouls in the match.
Pore scored an early goal to put the Timbers ahead, 1-nil. In the 5th minute, Brian Umony's shot bounced off the near post and dropped the Pore who knocked the rebound into an open net.
Vancouver equalized in the 36th minute when Blake Wagner's shot was deflected into the net by defender David Horst for an own goal.
Just minutes before the equalizer, Whitecaps FC forward Atiba Harris turned and fired a shot from 20 yards out that bounced off the post.
Portland nearly netted a late winner when Rodrigo Lopez wound up and blasted a curling shot from 20 yards out that was knocked wide of the frame by Vancouver goalkeeper Joe Cannon in second half stoppage time.
The Cascadia Summit concludes on Sunday as the Sounders FC Academy U18 team plays the Whitecaps FC Residency team at 12 p.m. followed by the Seattle Sounders FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC game at 3 p.m. All events will be held at Starfire Stadium.
