Peoria Chiefs News Release
Appleton, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers connected on three home runs Sunday to take the series finale 5-1 over the Chiefs. With the victory, Wisconsin secured a series win by taking four of the six games.
In all, Wisconsin recorded just four hits in the contest and were hitless with runners in scoring position.
After the teams traded zeroes in the first, it was the Chiefs who drew first blood. An Elijah Cabell single was followed up by a Francisco Hernandez double. A Noah Mendlinger walk loaded the bases with one out for Luis Rodriguez. The Peoria catcher skied one to right for a sac fly to give Peoria a 1-0 cushion.
The lead was short lived as Wisconsin tied the game in the second. Jesus Chirinos recorded the first homer of the game, a lined shot to left, to make it a 1-1 score. From there, Peoria starter Trent Baker setted in nicely. The right-hander surrendered just two hits over four innings and whiffed seven Wisconsin hitters, the most by a Peoria starter this season.
The Chiefs offense was held in check by Tyler Woessner, who like Baker, also started on Tuesday. The right-hander settled in nicely and punched out eight Peoria hitters over five innings to earn the win. Each of his final six outs on Sunday were recorded via the strikeout.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Wisconsin took their first lead of the contest. Reliever Ian Bedell entered and promptly retired the first two men that he faced. Then, a pair of walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases. With Chirinos at the plate, Peoria catcher Luis Rodriguez was charged with a passed ball that allowed the go-ahead run to score.
From there, it was the Alex Hall show. In the sixth, Hall connected on a solo shot to push the lead to 3-1. In the eighth, it was Hall again, this time to the deepest part of the yard in right center. His two-run blast off of Andrew Marrero created the final margin, 5-1.
The Chiefs are off on Monday. Peoria will host Fort Wayne for six games starting Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. from Dozer Park.
