Appleton, Wisc.-Wisconsin pitchers Clint Terry and Barrett Astin combined on a four-hit shutout as the Timber Rattlers defeated the Dayton Dragons 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. The two clubs have split the first two games in the series.
The Dayton loss snapped their four-game winning streak and ended their eight-game road winning streak. The Dragons lost on the road for the first time since June 25.
Terry (3-2) went the first six innings to earn the win. He allowed three hits and two walks while striking out five. Astin worked the final three innings and recorded his third save. He allowed just one hit.
The Dragons best chance to score came in the ninth inning. Trailing 3-0, Robert Ramirez was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Phillip Ervin followed with a base hit to left field to move Ramirez to second and bring the tying run to the plate. Avain Rachal ran the count to 3-1 before grounding into a double play to shortstop, and Joe Hudson grounded to third to end the game. The Dragons did not advance a runner past second base over the first eight innings.
Dragons starting pitcher Jackson Stephens (2-2) worked six innings and was charged with the loss. He allowed four hits and three runs with one walk and six strikeouts.
Ervin had two of the Dragons four hits and extended his hitting streak to seven straight games.
