
Captains Drop 5th Straight Game with 2-1 Loss

(Davenport, IA)- Ronnie Mitchell not only doubled in the game winning run, but he threw out the potential tying run at home plate to end the ballgame and preserved a 2-1 River Bandits win on Sunday. Quad Cities clinched the series against the Captains with the win and the Captains have dropped five straight games.
Quad Cities scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to open the scoring. With one out and runners on the corners, Jake Rodriguez laid down a safety squeeze and the runner from third scored. It was 1-0 River Bandits.
The River Bandits scored another run in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs, J.D. Davis doubled. Ronnie Mitchell double him home and the back-to-back doubles made the score 2-0 Quad Cities.
Lake County scored one run in the ninth inning. The Captains got two runners on base via a free pass. With one out, a ground ball was hit to shortstop, which looked like a double play. The second out was recorded at second by the relay throw by Mark Wik sailed past 1st base and the Captains scored to cut the lead to 2-1. With a runner on second base, Dorssys Paulino singled to left field but Ronnie Mitchell threw out the runner at the dish and the final was 2-1.
RHP Jordan Milbrath (3-10) started the game for the Captains and took the loss. Milbrath pitched five and one third innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits, three walks and he struck out one. Wander Beras pitched one and two thirds innings and allowed one hit, two walks and he fanned two. Carlos Melo pitched the eighth inning and struck out the side in order.
RHP Edison Frias (6-5) started for Quad Cities and earned the win. Frias pitched five innings and allowed three hits, two walks and he struck out three. Blaine Sims pitched four innings of to earn the save, his first of the season. Sims allowed two hit one earned run and fanned three.
The Captains will remain on the road to conclude a six-game road trip to the state of Iowa. On Monday, Lake County will take on the Quad Cities River Bandits. The Captains will send RHP Caleb Hamrick (3-5, 6.78) to the mound and the River Bandits will counter with RHP Adrian Houser (4-4, 4.84). First Pitch is at 2:00 PM from Modern Woodman Park in Davenport, IA.
