Alcantara Dominant in Bees' Win

(Grand Rapids-MI) Victor Alcantara allowed just one earned run over seven innings of work, and struck out seven hitters, helping the Bees defeat the West Michigan Whitecaps, 5-3, on Sunday. Dominent

The Bees offense got going in the fourth inning, scoring three runs off of Whitecaps' starter Jon Maciel. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Tyler Palmer hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Mike Fish, putting the Bees on top 1-0. The next hitter, Trevor Gretzky, lined a single into right, scoring Eric Aguilera, and extending the Bees' lead to 2-0. Ismael Dionicio capped off the inning with a single to right scoring Stephen McGee, putting the Bees on top 3-0.

West Michigan climed to within a pair, scoring two runs in the fifth inning on a throwing error and an infield RBI single from Wynton Bernard, cutting the Bees lead to 3-2.

The Bees grabbed those two runs back in the sixth. Trvor Gretzky lined a double down the right field line, scoring Tyler Palmer, extending the Bees' advantage to 4-2. Two batters later, Ismael Dionicio singled to right, scoring Gretzky, pushing the lead to 5-2.

Brian Loconsole (3) was able to limit the damage in the ninth, allowing a run, earning the save, securing the Bees' win.

Victor Alcantara (6-4) tied season highs in both innings pitched with seven, and strikeouts with seven as well. Alcantara allowed just one earned run, earning the win. Whitecaps' starter, Jon Maciel (4-4) was charged with the loss.

The Burlington Bees (54-44) wrap up their three game series with the West Michigan Whitecaps (59-40) on Monday at 6:00 PM Central Time. Harrison Cooney takes the mound for the Bees against Kevin Ziomek.
