Tigers Pick Up Farmanara at 20-year-old Deadline
October 12, 2007 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Medicine Hat, AB - Medicine Hat Tigers announced this afternoon they have added 20-year-old-forward Yashar Farmanara to their roster.
Farmanara was released yesterday by the Lethbridge Hurricanes to make room for 20-year-old former 'Cane Mike Wuchterl obtained from the Vancouver Giants which left Farmanara as the odd man out in the Hurricane's 20-year-old situation. The Hurricanes traded Wuchterl to the Giants last year at the trading deadline.
"Yashar Farmanara is a good player who has proven he can score," stated Tigers' general manager Willie Desjardins.
"He plays our style of hockey. Yashar is a great skater who plays the game hard at both ends of the rink. He is a real good fit for our team," said Desjardins.
"We hadn't been looking for a forward, that wasn't our goal," stated Desjardins. We thought we would be getting a 20-year-old d-man coming back but that didn't happen and as a result we felt Yashar was too good of a hockey player not to bring in when he became available," concluded Desjardins.
Farmanara is expected to make his Tiger's debut tonight against his former team Lethbridge Hurricanes when the Tigers travel to Lethbridge for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
This is the first of three games in three nights for the Tigers who return home tomorrow to defend home ice against the upstart Edmonton Oil Kings (7:30 p.m. start) and the return engagement with the Hurricanes on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
