Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Despite a long bus ride the Medicine Hat Tigers came off the bus to beat the Kootenay ICE 3-2 Friday night.
David Quenneville scored the game winning goal on a power play in the third period. His shot that beat ICE goaltender Duncan McGovern glove side was set up by Jaeger White and Bryan Lockner.
The Tabbies loaded their team bus at 10:00 a.m. in Medicine Hat but due to poor road conditions they did not arrive in Cranbrook until 7:20 p.m. which delayed the game to a 8:35 p.m. start time.
The long bus ride didn't seem to affect Gary Haden who opened the scoring for the Tigers just under two minutes after the puck was dropped. Haden chipped the puck in on a play from linemates White and Elijah Brown.
Midway through the first frame, ICE forward Alec Baer tied the game up at 1 by tapping in a rebound on Tigers netminder Michael Bullion.
Late in the second period during an ICE power play, there was mass confusion in front of Bullion's net and the puck crossed the line. After deliberation by the referees the goal stood and ICE forward Brad Ginnell was credited with the goal.
Ryan Jevne and Ryan Chyzowski combined to set up rookie defenceman Cole Clayton whose shot beat McGovern low corner on his blocker side. This was Clayton's 2nd goal of the season and it tied the game back up at 2 after 40 minutes of play.
With less than half of the final frame to play, Quenneville scored the game winning goal.
Bullion made a lot of key saves for the Orange and Black tonight, especially on the penalty kill. He stopped 32 of the ICE's 34 shots that he faced and earned the 1st star of the game. McGovern turned aside 33 of the Tabbies 36 shots to earn the 2nd star of the game.
The Orange and Black are now 31-24-7-0 and will host the Brandon Wheat Kings tomorrow night at the Canalta Centre. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
