Tigers Come Back But Fall In Overtime In Game 3 Of Eastern Conference Quarter Final

April 3, 2024 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Red Deer, AB -Despite playing shorthanded and coming back down one in the third period, the Medicine Hat Tigers would fall to the Red Deer Rebels 4-3 in Game Three of the Eastern Conference Quarter Final Tuesday night.

Despite giving up an early power play the Tigers would kill it off and slowly get their bearings as goaltender Zach Zahara (Rockyview, AB) would make a clutch save on Mats Lindgren, back in transition, Hayden Harsanyi (Calgary, AB) would follow-up on a Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) one-time drive beating Chase Wutzke to make it 1-0 Medicine Hat. Gavin McKenna (Yellowknife, YT) would create the opportunity with his fifth point of the series at 9:48. Medicine Hat would get a late power play but it would be Carson Latimer tying the game at 1-1 with just 0.4 seconds left in the period. Drawing things even at 1-1 heading to the second period.

Medicine Hat would make it a 2-1 at 6:12 as Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) is able to walk the blue-line at the Rebel end and bust in for his 2nd of the series to make it another Tiger lead. 47 seconds later on a Rebels power play Latimer would one-time his 2nd of the game past Zahara to draw even at 2-2. Some bad luck for the Tigers with under five minutes to go in the period as Hunter Mayo would Zahara for his first of the playoffs and the Tigers would trail for the first time in the series minus the Game 1 overtime loss going to the third period.

Medicine Hat would have plenty of opportunities to even things up including a goaltender interference call on Medicine Hat cancelling out a game tying goal mark from Reid Andresen (Saskatoon, SK) but it wouldn't come till just 34.6 seconds left in the 3rd as Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) would wire home his 2nd of the playoffs from McKenna and Rhett Parsons (Cremona, AB) would hit the assist mark.

Off to overtime and the Tigers would be dealt a bad hand in overtime as they'd have to try and defend a Rebels power play but after a scramble in the crease and Samuel Drancak would hit the open net and that would seal the Tigers fate as they fall 4-3 and now trail in the Best of 7, two game to one.

Game 4 goes Wednesday night at the Peavy Mart Centrium, you can catch the game on Wild 94.5 with the Voice of the Tigers Gino De Paoli & Lance Doll or watch the broadcast on the WHL Live - Away Feed.
