Scott Moore went 3-for-4 with a home run, but Norfolk finished 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position in a 3-2 setback to Durham Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park.

Moore clubbed a solo shot off Bulls starter Virgil Vasquez (1-0) in the fourth inning to tie the score at 1-1. It was Norfolk's first home run of the season as well as the 100th minor league blast for Moore.

Tides starter Troy Patton (0-1) pitched very effectively until the sixth, when he issued back-to-back walks to start the frame before being replaced by Ross Wolf. Joe Dillon greeted Wolf with an RBI double, and one batter later former Oriole Chris Richard lifted a sacrifice fly to give the Bulls a 3-1 lead.

Patton allowed just two hits and two earned runs while striking out five, but was hurt by three walks. All three runs the Bulls scored in the contest came courtesy of the free passes issued by the 24-year-old southpaw.

Norfolk mounted a rally in the ninth against Durham closer Dale Thayer, as Michael Aubrey connected on the third of three Tides singles to drive home Moore and bring the Tides within one. After a walk to Rhyne Hughes loaded the bases with two out, Thayer escaped the jam by catching Adam Donachie looking on a called third strike to end the contest and help Durham salvage a split of the four-game series.

The Tides will welcome the Charlotte Knights to Harbor Park Monday night for the start of a three-game set. Brandon Erbe will make his Triple-A debut for Norfolk against right-hander Dan Hudson. Hudson, who attended Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach before pitching for the Old Dominion Monarchs, enters the 2010 season ranked as the number three prospect in the Chicago White Sox system according to Baseball America.
