
Tides roll past Braves

Norfolk, VA - The Norfolk Tides beat the Richmond Braves 5-3 Saturday at Harbor Park. The Tides scored three first inning runs and held on to even the four game series vs. the Braves at a game each. Durham lost to Louisville 8-7 so the Braves maintain a one game lead in the South Division.
The Tides jumped right out against spot starter Jeff Bennett after Jo-Jo Reyes was scratched. Sebastien Boucher led off with a home run. Jon Knott and Terry Tiffee chipped in with run scoring singles and the Tides were up 3-0 after one. In the second, the Braves got on the board with an RBI single by Wes Timmons. The Tides responded with a run in the home half on a Mike Cervenak sacrifice fly to make it 4-1. Brayan Pena doubled a run home in the third to trim the Tides lead to 4-2. The Tides tacked on a run in the fifth on an RBI single by Adam Stern. The Braves Iker Franco capped the scoring in the eighth with a home run.
Jon Leicester worked seven innings to earn the win. Francis Beltran notched a save. Bennett took the loss. The Tides out-hit the Braves 14-5. Boucher had three hits.
The Braves and Tides meet Sunday at Harbor Park at 6:15. Dan Smith will pitch for the Braves against Craig Anderson. Richmond returns home Monday to face the Tides at 7 PM. For more information please call the Braves office at 359-4444 or visit www.rbraves.com.
