Norfolk Tides News Release
Louisville plated six runs with two outs in the ninth inning, knocking off the Tides 8-2 on Saturday night from Harbor Park.
After Norfolk closer Cory Doyne (0-1) retired the first two batters of the 9th, eight consecutive Louisville batters reached base to help the Bats even the series at one game apiece.
Norris Hopper started the rally with an infield single to second base, and moved to second after Bubba Crosby drew a walk. Joey Votto followed by lining a triple into center field to give the Bats a 4-2 lead, and Aaron Herr dunked a single into right field to put the Bats up 5-2.
Louisville added to its lead later in the inning, plating a run on a wild pitch and on a two-run single by Earl Snyder.
Mike Cervenak had an RBI single in the 4th inning for Norfolk, while J.R. House plated a run with a sacrifice fly in the 7th inning to pace the Tides offense. House also singled in the 4th inning to extend his season opening hit streak to eight games.
Tides starter Jim Johnson allowed two runs on five hits in 5.0 innings of work, walking one and striking out three.
The Tides and Bats will square off in the rubber game of their series Sunday afternoon, with right-hander Tim Kester (0-1, 12.00) scheduled to take the mound for Norfolk against Louisville lefty Mike Gosling (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is slated for 1:15 p.m.
