Indianapolis Indians News Release
RICHMOND, Va. -- Right-hander Buddy Carlyle allowed just one run over six innings, while second baseman Martin Prado went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two runs and one RBI as Richmond evened the series with a 4-1 victory over Indianapolis Saturday afternoon at The Diamond.
The Braves improve to 4-2 with the win, while the Indians fall to 5-3 on the season.
Richmond plated all of the runs it would need in the first two innings. In the first, Prado smashed a double to left and scored on SS Yunel Escobar's base knock to center. Then, in the second, CF Willie Harris smoked an RBI triple to center before coming plateward on Prado's infield single.
The Braves scored their fourth-and-final run in the seventh when Prado drilled a two-bagger to right and scored on RF T. J. Bohn's single to center. Harris finished 2-for-3 with one walk, one run and one RBI.
Indianapolis scored its lone run of the afternoon on C Ryan Doumit's first homer of 2007 -- a solo shot to right center in the second. Doumit, who finished 2-for-4, is hitting .450 in his first six Triple-A games of the season. RF Luis Matos added two base knocks for the Tribe.
Carlyle (6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 SO) improved to 1-1 with the win. Braves LHP Lee Hyde (2.0 IP, 2 H, 3 BB) tossed the seventh and eighth frames for a hold, while RHP Buddy Hernandez (1.0 IP) got through the ninth for his first save of the season.
Indians LHP Shane Youman (5.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) fell to 0-2 with the loss. The 27-year-old has now dropped back-to-back decisions after avoiding a loss in his final 21 appearances of 2006.
Indianapolis, which entered the contest with an International League-best .996 fielding percentage, committed two errors in a game for just the first time this year.
The two clubs wrap up their three-game series at The Diamond on Sunday at 2 p.m. RHP John Van Benschoten is scheduled to start for the Indians, while RHP Kevin Barry is expected to get the nod for the Braves.
The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 1:40 p.m.
Outfielder Nyjer Morgan will wear No. 42 in the series finale as the Indians pay tribute to Jackie Robinson on the 60th anniversary of his first Major League game.
