Bisons Notes

April 14, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons are in Columbus for the second game of a four-game series with the Clippers from Cooper Stadium (7:05 p.m.). The Herd was victorious in game one, 2-0, thanks to a well-pitched game from starter Jason Stanford and two relievers. Looking for a third straight win, Buffalo will turn to RHP Adam Miller. Miller pitched for Buffalo on Monday and scattered 10 hits over six innings to lead the Bisons to their first victory of the season. Columbus will counter with RHP Felix Diaz, who threw 4.2 innings of four-hit ball against Indianapolis last Sunday.

IT'S EARLY, BUT...: The Bisons begin play today in sole possession of first place in the International League North Division. At 4-1, the team is a half-game up on Rochester. Buffalo did not hold a share of the lead in the division at any time in 2006.

TWO'S ENOUGH: While they'd like to score more, two runs have been enough for the Bisons in their last two games. Buffalo defeated Ottawa, 2-1, on Thursday before last night's 2-0 win in Columbus.

A COMPLETE ROTATION: Pitching was dubbed by many as the Bisons' strength heading into 2007 and the team's starters have backed up that prediction. After the first trip through the rotation, the team's starters are 3-0 with a 3.04ERA. Today's starter, RHP Adam Miller, picked up the first win of the year. RHP Jeff Harris and LHP Jason Stanford are also 1-0.

ROSTER MOVE: The Cleveland Indians have activated outfielder Franklin Gutierrez off Major League Rehab and optioned him to the Bisons. Gutierrez joined the Herd on Thursday and went 1-3 with a single in his only game. Also, infielder Shaun Larkin was placed on the disabled list. Larkin has played in three games for Buffalo, two as a defensive replacement (0-1).

BULLY FOR THE PEN: The bullpen continues to impress and now has a 2.95ERA in its first 18.1 innings of work in 2007. RHP Edward Mujica fanned two in an inning last night for his third save in as many tries. Mujica is one of five Bisons relievers that have yet to allow a run so far this year (RHP Jason Beverlin, RHP Mike Koplove, LHP Juan Lara and RHP Brian Sikorski).

HELD IN THE YARD: Bisons' pitchers have yet to allow a home run so far this season (5 games, 45.0 innings). Last season, Herd pitchers allowed just 79 home runs, the fewest in the International League.
