CORPUS CHRISTI - Alabama senior Austin Hyatt tossed six innings of four-hit, one-run ball and junior Clay Jones belted a ninth-inning grand slam to seal the deal Friday night as the No. 23 Crimson Tide handled Texas-Pan American 14-1 in round two of the Fourth Annual Whataburger College Classic before 2,187 at Whataburger Field.

Alabama (7-3) opened the scoring in the third. The first three batters reached base to open the frame. Broncs starter Anthony Garcia then issued a bases-loaded walk for a 1-0 Crimson Tide lead. Ryan Rhoden followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Kent Matthes from third base to double the Alabama advantage. Ross Wilson was cut down trying to reach third base for a double play.

Hyatt (3-0) got into a bases-load jam with nobody out in the fourth, but limited the damage to a run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ryan Vest.

Garcia (0-1) faced another bases-loaded situation in the Alabama fifth. Brandon May led off with a single up the middle. After a pair of fly outs, the UTPA lefty walked three straight batters, handing the Tide a 3-1 lead. Nathan Molina entered in relief and induced a fielder's choice groundout to end the threat.

Garcia was charged with three runs and five hits over 4.2 innings. He walked eight, struck out one and stranded five.

Alabama played add-on in the seventh thanks to a two-out, two-run single by Cody Trotter.

The Broncs (0-10) issued 14 walks in the contest, hit four and left 12 Bama runners on base.

The Tide, after posting three runs in the eighth and six more in the ninth, has scored 44 times in its last three victories.

Tyler White earned the first save of his career after blanking Texas-Pan American through three innings.

The tournament picks up Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Broncs meet Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the opener of a double header. The Islanders draw Alabama in the nightcap, slated for 5 p.m.
