Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
Crestwood, IL - The Windy City ThunderBolts and Rockford RiverHawks both knocked out 12 hits, but the ThunderBolts prevailed by scoring ten runs to the RiverHawks' eight on Saturday night.
After falling into a quick 1-0 hole, Nick Klusaw put the ThunderBolts ahead by three with one swing of the bat. The grand slam to left field brought home Clemente Bonilla, Jose Gutierrez and Nick Johnson who had all previously reached base. Windy City batted around in the inning and left the bases loaded.
Rockford posted a run in the top of the second to cut the Windy City lead to 4-2. ThunderBolt hitters pounded RiverHawks' starter Derek Roper for two more runs in the bottom of the frame to make it a 6-2 advantage for the home team.
RiverHawks' All-Star first baseman Aaron McEachran nailed a solo blast over the outfield fence to chip into the ThunderBolts' lead in the top of the third. Another four runs were posted by Windy City batters in the bottom of the inning. With two men on and one already home, designated hitter Justin Schuda crushed a triple to centerfield to plate both Johnson and Klusaw.
Rockford slowly crept back into the game after being down 10-3. A sacrifice fly by Ashley Farr pushed shortstop Olmo Rosario across the plate in the fifth. In the sixth, the RiverHawks knocked around ThunderBolt starter Josh Glynn for three runs before he exited with a strained forearm. Another run was added in the top of the seventh on a solo homerun by Jeremy Busch to make it a 10-8 game. Reliever Lenny Bays threw a scoreless ninth to preserve the ThunderBolt win.
Glynn earned the win for the ThunderBolts to improve his record to 3-4. Glynn allowed six runs, five of which were earned, over five and two-third innings. Roper took the loss for the RiverHawks, lasting just one and two-third innings. Bays earned the save, his first in a ThunderBolts' uniform and seventh overall on the season.
The ThunderBolts and RiverHawks will take to the field for the rubber game of their three game series at 5:05pm on Sunday evening. Scott Anderson (RHP, 1-2, 4.67) will take the hill for Windy City and Kevin Crowley (RHP, 1-1, 3.76) will make the start for Rockford.
