Richmond Roosters News Release

Richmond, Indiana - Richmond lost a rain-shortened contest 6-5 on Friday night against Evansville. The Roosters managed to get the tying run to first in the eighth, but the rain didn't hold off long enough as the Otters took the first game of the series.

The Otters came out hot in the first inning. All nine batters in the lineup came to bat collecting five hits and five runs. Juan Downing, Jeff Goldbach, Trask Munoz, and Brian McKenna each had run-scoring hits to net Evansville a 5-0 lead. The teams traded runs in the sixth with a solo homer from Rickey Clinton in the top half and a RBI single by Tony Sanguinetti in the bottom half made it a 6-1 score.

The Roosters tried to rally from that point. Three runs scored in the second with a RBI single by Kevin White and a two-run double by Sanguinetti. Another scored in the eighth on a pinch-hit RBI single by Gerald Miler to make it a 6-5 ballgame. That would be as close as Richmond would get as the skies opened up and the rain set in, halting play. The rain delay lasted one hour and fourteen minutes until the game was called with the tying run for Richmond at first.

Cody Blackard (3-0) got the win for Evansville while Tony Casoli (6-2) took the loss. The Roosters will continue its series against the Otters on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. (Indiana time) at McBride Stadium. Matt Schweitzer (2-4, 3.24 ERA) will be making his 11th start for Richmond against Brian Kroll (2-3, 3.86 ERA) of Evansville.
