
Grizzlies power past Mid-Missouri

The Gateway Grizzlies took revenge on the Mid-Missouri Mavericks Saturday night, and it all came in the second inning. After a 10-3 loss Friday night to Mid-Missouri, the Grizzlies scored nine runs in the second inning and held on to beat the Mavericks 9-4 in front of 4,373 at GMC Stadium.
The Grizzlies are 20-27. Mid-Missouri is 16-30.
The Grizzlies hit four home runs in the inning. Ryan Sullivan hit two two-run shots in the inning, becomming the first Grizzlies player, and possibly the first in the Frontier League to accomplish the feat.
Erik Dessau (3-1) started and went seven innings for the win. He gave up two runs on just two hits. He struck out three and walked three. He retired the last 11 hitters he faced. Eric Ebers allowed two runs in 1.2 innings. Scott Patterson, making his first appearance since returning to the Grizzlies, faced just one hitter to end the game.
Sullivan was 2-3 with the pair of home runs and four RBIs. Ben Margalski was 2-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Phil Warren was 1-3 with a solo home run. Oscar Vargas and Jimmy Reiter each had RBIs in the win.
The Grizzlies and Mavericks will play the rubber match of the series Sunday afternoon at GMC Stadium. Start time is 3:05 p.m.
