CRESTWOOD, IL - The ThunderBolts belted out season-highs of 18 runs and 19 hits on their way to a dominant 18-2 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums at Standard Bank Stadium Saturday night. The 18 runs scored were the most in a game for the Bolts since August 9, 2008.

In a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning, the Bolts (15-28) had two runners on with two outs when Jonathan McCray started the scoring with an RBI single. A throwing error on a stolen base attempt allowed two more runs to score. After the next two batters singled, Tim Zier's three-run homer made the lead 6-0.

Traverse City (19-24) scored their first run in the third on an Orlando Rivera RBI single. They put runners at first and second with no outs but ac Westcott pitched out of the jam. The Beach Bums loaded the bases with no outs in the next inning, but Westcott again got out of it and wasn't threatened again.

Tyler Straub hit an RBI double and Larry Balkwill hit a two-run homer in the third inning and the rout was on as the Bolts led 9-1. Blair Beck added two more runs on his sixth homer of the year in the fourth.

With one out in the fifth inning, three straight ThunderBolt hitters walked before they came up with four straight RBI singles, making the score 15-1. They tacked on the final three runs on late RBI hits for Axel Johnson and Omar Obregon, who finished with five hits.

All nine Windy City starters finished with at least one hit, eight of nine scored at least one run and seven of nine had at least one RBI.

Zac Westcott (3-6) struck out nine in seven innings and picked up the win. Justin Finan (0-2) gave up 11 runs in four innings for the loss.
