Slammers Bring Out the Bats in 10-3 Win

June 30, 2018 - Frontier League (FL) - Lake Erie Crushers News Release

JOLIET, ILLINOIS. - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, had won a club record seven consecutive series on the road entering their series with Joliet. After dropping the opener last night, the Crushers needed to take the next two in order to extend the streak, but a 10-3 loss on Saturday night ended the streak.

Not much went right for Lake Erie after the top of the first. The Crushers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first when Cody Lenahan singled home a couple of runs with two outs. Lenahan now has 16 RBIs on the season.

The lead didn't last long. In the bottom of the first against Sean Renzi (5-2), the Slammers scored five times on three hits. That included a three-run home run by Travis Bolin, making it 5-2.

Joliet added on two runs in the third. An error by Lake Erie and one hit helped make it 7-2 Slammers.

The Crushers scored a run against Joliet starter Daren Osby (1-0) in the fifth. A triple by Joel McKeithan turned into a run after a sacrifice fly by Aaron Hill. Osby went five innings while allowing three runs in the win.

Renzi ended up finishing five innings while allowing seven runs (six earned) on five hits. He walked four and struck out six.

Joliet added a run in the sixth against Austin Orvis and then two more in the eighth against Seth Lucio. A two-run home run by Justin Garcia made it 10-3.

The Crushers left 10 men on base in the loss. Lake Erie (25-19) will look to avoid the sweep tomorrow at 1:05 CDT when they hand the ball to Alex Romero (4-3). Joliet (24-20) goes with Scot Hoffman (4-1). The Crushers begin a six-game homestead on Tuesday against Evansville.
