Thunderbirds Conclude Road Trip in Hartford
March 28, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Springfield Thunderbirds News Release
HARTFORD, CT - The Springfield Thunderbirds (28-33-5-1) will conclude a season-long five-game road trip on Wednesday night as they travel south to take on the Hartford Wolf Pack (30-30-5-3) at the XL Center for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop.
The Thunderbirds sit at 6-2-1-1 against the Wolf Pack this season, including victories in each of the last four matchups in the season series. In their last three games against Hartford, Springfield has scored 15 goals. Curtis Valk has led the way with 14 points in the 10 games against the Pack. Vinni Lettieri has led the way for the Wolf Pack, as the rookie has scored seven goals in eight games against the Thunderbirds.
Springfield has fallen in six consecutive games dating back to their Pink in the Rink win on March 10, and the Thunderbirds have been shut out twice in their last three games. Sam Montembeault was a hard-luck loser in one of his finest starts of the season on Sunday in Toronto, making 37 saves on 38 shots in a 2-0 defeat.
The Wolf Pack, meanwhile, have won four of their last five games as they try to cling to their slim playoff hopes. Hartford has already eclipsed its win total from all of 2016-17 while sitting at .500 in points percentage.
The Thunderbirds will play three games in four nights by week's end, as Springfield returns home for matchups on Friday against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Saturday against the Utica Comets. Both games have a 7:05 p.m. ET puck drop. Saturday's game is the second annual Pucks N' Paws presented by Dave's Soda & Pet City. Dogs will be allowed entry for $5, with those proceeds benefiting the Foundation for TJO Animals. Additionally, U.S. women's Olympic hockey gold medalist Kacey Bellamy will be on hand to sign autographs and meet fans from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
