Hershey Bears News Release

(Bridgeport, CT) - The Hershey Bears opened the week with a 6-4 defeat to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Wednesday at the Webster Bank Arena. Anthony Peluso enjoyed the best night of his professional career with three points, but the Sound Tigers moved to 4-1-0-0 vs. Hershey this season.

In the fifth of six meetings between the Bears and Sound Tigers this season, Bridgeport scored twice on their first three shots in the early stages. Only 29 seconds in, John Stevens opened the scoring after racing down the wing and beating Bears goaltender Vitek Vanecek. Stevens earned the primary helper on Bridgeport's second goal less than four minutes later. At 4:19 Ryan Hitchcock scored his second of the season in front of the net, putting Hershey in an early hole.

At 11:54, Kyle Burroughs was ejected from the game and assessed a five-minute major penalty for kneeing on Hershey's Tyler Graovac. On the ensuing major power play, Joe Whitney put the Chocolate and White on the board at 15:48. Whitney was in the right place at the right time after an Aaron Ness shot was deflected en route. The goal marked Hershey's first power play goal in seven games. Travis Boyd earned the secondary helper for his 30th assist of the regular season.

The Sound Tigers opened the flood gates in the second period with three goals, making it 5-1 at second intermission. Andre Benoit added his second goal of the season at 7:44 to restore Bridgeport's two-goal lead. Bridgeport managed two more tallies only 35 seconds apart at 18:42 and 19:17. Stevens scored his second goal of the game finishing a 2-on-1 rush on the rebound of a Mitchell Vande Sompel shot. Steve Bernier followed with his 17th strike of the season. Into the third period, Hershey led in shots 24-19.

Adam Carlson replaced Vanecek in relief for the Chocolate and White to start the third period. Hershey tallied three goals themselves in the frame, but ultimately dropped a 6-4 decision. At 6:13, Peluso tied his career-high for five goals in a single AHL season. Only 1:21 later, the Sound Tigers responded on a pretty passing play finished by Josh Ho-Sang.

Hampus Gustafsson put Hershey within three goals at 11:22 with the second goal of his AHL career, with the first coming earlier in the month also against Bridgeport. Peluso earned the primary helper for his first multi-point game since 2012.

Peluso added his third point of the evening on a goal scored in the final minute at 19:31 to round out a 6-4 final.

Hershey finished 1-for-6 on the man-advantage and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill. Final shots on goal were 40-28 in favor of the Chocolate and White. The Bears fall to 28-32-4-5 on the campaign.

Hershey returns to action on Friday for their first visit to Utica, New York since November 2016. Puck drop between the Bears and Comets is slated for 7 p.m. Zack Fisch has the call on the Bears Radio Network.
