Thunder Win Streak Stopped at Five Games in Denver

Denver, CO - Last night, Denver and Wichita put on an offensive show combining for five power play goals. On Saturday, Denver (10-8-1) won in a defensive affair over Wichita (11-6-2), shutting out the Thunder 2-0 at the Denver Coliseum. The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for Wichita and also snaps a four-game win streak on the road. With the loss, the Thunder and Cutthroats are even in the season-series at one win a-piece.

Denver got on the board first late in the opening 20 minutes. Troy Schwab put home a rebound at 19:37 to give the Cutthroats a 1-0 lead.

Brad Smyth continued on his torrid pace, scoring at 13:59 of the second period to extend the Denver lead to 2-0. There was a scramble in front of Kevin Regan, who was forced to make some acrobatic saves before Smyth scored to extend his scoring streak to six games.

Down the stretch, Kent Patterson was solid for the Cutthroats and kept the Wichita offense at bay. The Thunder power play went 0-for-4, snapping a four-game streak in which the unit was able to find the back of the net. The Denver power play was also held in check, as they went 0-for-4 as well.

Patterson earns his first career shutout, making all 29 saves while Kevin Regan was solid in net for Wichita, stopping 27 of 29 shots. Wichita was shutout for the second time this season, with the last one coming on November 10th against Rapid City.

Wichita heads out to Rapid City for a meeting with the Rush on Tuesday, December 4th. The Thunder's next home game is not until December 7th when the Tulsa Oilers come to town for the first time since opening weekend.
