THUNDER CLAIM ONE WIN- Wichita began its six-game road trip in Fort Worth, losing on New Year's Eve to the Brahmas 4-2. Wichita then hit the road for 15 hours and played in Moline, IL on January 2nd against the Mallards. Neil Trimm scored two goals and the Thunder offense erupted to a 5-1 victory. Kevin Regan earned his 13th win of the season while nine players recorded points. The Thunder finished the week in Independence Missouri, where they saw their seven-game win streak and six-game streak at the IEC snapped. Missouri came out strong in the first period, scoring twice. Wichita trailed after two when RG Flath was able to find the back of the net. The Mavericks smothered any comeback bid, scoring two more in the beginning of the third period to claim a 4-2 win.
LOGGING MILES- Wichita plays the fourth leg of a six-game road trip tonight and will not return to the Air Capital until January 18th. Wichita and Rapid City will play three games against each other this week, all of which are at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Five of the next six games are on the road. Wichita currently has a road record of 7-7-2.
30-FOR-30- The Thunder have four players with 30 points. Neil Trimm has 18 goals and 15 assists. Kevin Young has 13 goals and 17 assists while Matt Summers has 12 goals and 20 assists. Greger Hanson has 14 goals and 17 assists.
100 CLUB- Matt Summers recorded his 100th career pro goal on Friday night against Missouri. He ended a five-game goal-scoring drought and now has recorded points in his last three games. Summers needs 29 point to reach 300 for his career.
300/500- Head Coach Kevin McClelland needs 15 wins to reach 300 for his career. He will pass Gary Unger for seventh place with 293 victories. He would become the seventh coach to reach 300 CHL wins. He is also 14 games away from coaching in his 500th game, all of which have been in the CHL.
FIRING THE PUCK- Wichita had a season-high 51 shots this past Friday and also a season-high 25 shots in one period. Wichita is 6-1-1 when the opponent puts more pucks on net. When out-shooting the opponent, Wichita is 14-9-2.
FIRST GOAL- Playing with the lead has proven to be important for the Thunder. When scoring first, Wichita is 12-1-2. When giving up the first goal, Wichita is 8-10-1.
IN THE BLACK- Wichita has four players in the top ten in plus/minus. Nathan Lutz and RG Flath are tied in second with +16. Matt Summers is in sixth with +14 and Neil Trimm is tied in ninth with +11.
LAST FIVE- Les Reaney leads the team in the last five games with 6 points (1g, 5a). Hanson, Flath and Summers each have four points.
ROOKIE LEADERS- Greger Hanson is currently in second place in the rookie scoring race. His former teammate from Northern Michigan University, Tyler Gron, has 32 points while Hanson has 31.
