Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs won in a shootout against the Quad City Mallards, 3-2 Tuesday night at the iWireless Center in Moline, Illinois.
Recently named Oakley Player of the Week, Chad Nehring put the Sundogs on the board 6:43 into the opening period with assists from Jason Morgan and Derek LeBlanc. Kevin Petovello found the net 92 seconds later increasing the Sundogs' lead by two points. Moments later LeBlanc missed an opportunity for the Sundogs' third goal of the evening when the Mallards' John Murray came in with a save off his left pad and denies LeBlanc on the doorstep.
Quad City cut Arizona's lead in half with a goal from their leading scorer, Mickey Lang 4:41 into the second frame. The Mallards looked to tie the game, letting off six shots in less than two minutes, but were no match for Arizona's veteran goaltender Adam Russo.
With just under seven minutes left in regulation Patrik Levesque scored an unassisted power play goal and the game equalizer for the Mallards forcing the game into overtime. After five minutes of overtime neither team was able to break the tie sending them to a five-man shootout, where Arizona's Nehring tallied the game winning goal and his second of the night.
Nehring, Morgan and LeBlanc all continued their point streak while Arizona earned two points after tonight's win. Russo took the win for the Sundogs, with 31 saves. The Sundogs were 0-3 on the power play and the Mallards were 1-1. The Sundogs return home after a three game road trip where they will host the Denver Cutthroats for a two-game set for the final time at Tim's Toyota Center this season.
