Stockton Thunder News Release

Stockton, Calif. - In the first preseason game for the Stockton Thunder they beat the Bakersfield Condors 4-3 on Joey Martin's overtime goal, Friday night at Stockton Arena.

Martin netted the game winner three minutes into overtime after a pass from left-winger James Henry set him up with an open net. The goal completed the comeback for the Thunder after being down 3-1 midway through the 2nd period.

Thunder defensemen Landon Oslanski tied the game up at 3-3 and forced overtime with his power play goal late in the 3rd period. The puck deflected in off the post on a slapshot from the point. The goal gave the Thunder a surge as they kept the pressure on the Condors for the remainder of the game, eventually leading to Martin's game winning goal.

Forward Austin Mayer scored the first two goals for the Thunder, one in each of the first two periods. Mayer's second goal triggered a run of three straight for the Thunder. Mayer earned the first star with his two goal performance.

After giving up 3 goals in seven minutes, Thunder goalie Brian Foster shut the door on the Condors. Foster was in fine form in the last period and overtime blocking all nine shots faced, including two key stops in overtime. He stopped 26 of 29 shots on the night.

"He is a veteran guy, he has been around," said head coach Richard Kromm. "He knows when to elevate his game, when he needs to and that is certainly what he did."

Center Joel Broda got the scoring started for the Condors in the 2nd period after Foster gave up a rebound on the previous shot. Later in the period, Bakersfield scored two goals in 19 seconds, with the first coming from forward Michael Hellyer. The Condors forward drilled a slapshot past the stick side of Foster from just inside the blue line. That was quickly followed by a Jake Morley one-timer that beat Foster through the five-hole.

The Thunder outshot the Condors 38-29 for the game and dropped Bakersfield to 1-1 in the preseason. The Thunder return to the ice at 7:30PM on Saturday night when they visit the San Francisco Bulls.

The Thunder's next home game is opening night of the regular season when Stockton welcomes the Colorado Eagles on October 19th, with the puck dropping at 7:30 PM.
