Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators and powered by Toyota, announced today the signing of rookie forward Gerrad Grant (pronounced Jared) for the 2016-17 season.
"Gerrad is a tough, hard nosed player that will add grit and tenacity to our lineup," stated Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. "He comes from a very good college program where he was relied upon in key situations. I look forward to seeing him in camp and on the ice with the Thunder this season."
Grant, 26, begins his professional career after playing the last five seasons at Saint Mary's University. A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound forward finished with 53 points (17g, 36a) in 125 career games and also added five goals in 19 playoff games. He helped the Huskies take the bronze medal at the 2016 University Cup this past March.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to make my way to Wichita after five great years at Saint Mary's," commented Grant. "I've heard great things about the organization, the fans and plan to help out the team the best way I can."
Before heading to Canadian University, Grant played three years for the QMJHL's Halifax Mooseheads, where he collected 90 points (42g, 48a) in 192 career games. His best season came during the 2009-10 campaign, recording 48 points (22g, 26a) in 64 games.
The Thunder kicks off their 25th Anniversary season on Saturday, October 15th against the Tulsa Oilers. Season tickets are on sale now. Put down your $50 deposit per seat and pay it off all summer long. Contact a Thunder representative at the office today.
