August 2, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles, proud affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, announced Tuesday that they have re-signed forward Darryl Bootland for the 2016-17 season. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound forward has amassed 69 points and 511 penalty minutes in 107 games with the Eagles. The 2015-16 season saw him finish tied for first place in the ECHL with 17 major penalties, while also ending the year tied for second in the league with 259 PIM's.
"I'm obviously very excited to be coming back to the Eagles," said Bootland. "Now seeing the affiliation with the Colorado Avalanche, the team that I started my career with, it's a great thing. I actually bumped into Joe Sakic and Adam Foote recently and to see their excitement, you know it's going to be a great year. I'm definitely ready to get it fired back up."
Bootland is a former 8th round draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche in 2000. The Toronto, Ontario native played 32 games in the NHL with both the Detroit Red Wings and the New York Islanders, netting one goal, two assists and 85 penalty minutes during that time.
"We are very happy to bring back the type of player that Darryl has been for us over the last two seasons," said Eagles general manager Chris Stewart. "He is a player who can quickly shift the momentum in a hockey game and he will be an asset for us again this year both on and off the ice."
In addition to his ECHL and NHL career, Bootland has collected 168 points and 1,480 penalty minutes in 382 games in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins, Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Portland Pirates and Manitoba Moose. He also helped guide the Allen Americans to back-to-back championships in the CHL in 2013 and 2014.
In total, Bootland returns to Colorado with 471 points and 3,194 penalty minutes in 841 professional games.
