Thunder score six in ninth, win third straight in last at-bat

(Portland, ME)- The Thunder scored six runs in the 9th Inning to vercome a four-run deficit for a 7-5 win over the Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday night. It is the third consecutive day in which Trenton has won a game in their last at-bat.

Portland (27-21) entering the 9th Inning with a 5-1 lead after an 8th Inning two-run homer by DH Jeremy West off Trenton's T.J. Beam. The Thunder (26-25) started the 9th Inning with five straight hits off Portland closer Edgar Martinez, including a three-run homer by SS Felix Escalona to close the gap to 5-4. After Martinez was taken out for Mike Bumatay, LF Vince Faison drew a walk to load the bases. An error by SS Zach Borowiak allowed the tying run to score. Thunder 2B Gabe Lopez followed with a two-run single for a 7-5 lead.

Justin Pope came on to work a scoreless bottom of the ninth, allowing a hit and a walk, for his 6th save. Beam (4-0) got the win despite allowing two runs in 1 1/3 innings. Martinez (1-2) took the loss by giving up five runs and not retiring a batter.

The Sea Dogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings against Trenton starter Jeff Karstens. Sea Dogs starter Phil Seibel blanked the Thunder on one hit over the first five innings. Trenton made it a 3-1 game in the 7th Inning as DH randy Ruiz hit a solo homer off Sea Dogs reliever Victor Ramos.

The two teams play a doubleheader on Wednesday at 6:00 PM. Steven White (3-1, 2.35) and Jeremy King (2-2, 4.29) start the games for Trenton. LHP Mike Rozier has been called up from Greenville (Low-A) to start the opener for Portland. Their second game starter is TBA.
