
Sea Dogs can't hold on, lose 7-5

The Trenton Thunder scored six runs in the ninth inning, rallying back to beat the Portland Sea Dogs, 7-5 on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field. Portland drops to 2-3 on their eight-game homestand and loses their fourth straight to Trenton.
The Sea Dogs built their lead by scoring three times off Trenton starter Jeff Karstens. Brandon Moss had an RBI double in the second inning to score Chad Spann, who singled lead off the frame. In the third, Chris Durbin singled in a run and Spann produced a run-scoring double
Phil Seibel took a no-decision, allowing one hit on two walks and fanned four through five innings.
Jeremy West gave the âDogs a 5-1 lead in the eighth inning with a two-run homer over the left field wall.
In the ninth, the Thunder scored six runs in the ninth, five times off Edgar Martinez (1-2), sending 12 men to the plate. Felix Escalona made it 5-4 with a three-run homer - his second of the season. Trenton tied the game when J.T. Stotts reached on a bases loaded error by the shortstop Zach Borowiak. Gabe Lopez had the game-winning hit with a two run single off Mike Bumatay.
Justin Pope earned the save, retiring Durbin and Luis Jimenez with runners at first and second.
Notes...Edgar Martinez has allowed eight of his 10 earned runs on homers...Portland scored three of their five runs with two outs...Tonight was the largest lead surrendered by Portland this season.
