
Eastern League announces weekly award winners

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the Major League Baseball Advanced Media selections for the Eastern League Pitcher and Player of the Week for the week ending May 28th:
New Hampshire Fisher Cats outfielder Adam Lind has been named the Eastern League's Player of the Week for the week ending May 28th. Lind, a native of Anderson, Indiana, had an outstanding week for the Fisher Cats, batting .412 (14-for-34) with six doubles, three homers, 12 RBI, eight runs scored, one walk and a .853 slugging percentage in seven games. The 22-year old got his week off to a great start on Monday, going 5-for-7 with two doubles, one home run, four runs scored and three RBI in the Fisher Cats 23-9 win over Connecticut and had at least one hit in every other game he played in last week. Adam was ranked by Baseball America as the fourth best prospect in the Blue Jays organization entering this season. The 6'2", 195 lb. slugger, who is currently tied for second in the league in home runs (9), was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the third round of the June 2004 draft out of the University of South Alabama.

Michael Connolly, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Altoona Curve, is the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 28th. The 23-year old made a pair of starts for the Curve last week and was 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA. In his first start of the week Connolly, a native of Oneonta, New York, gave up one run on two hits and one walk and struck out a pair of batters in seven innings of work to earn a victory against the Bowie Baysox at Blair County Ballpark. The 6'0", 194 lb. hurler was equally impressive in his second appearance of the week, striking out three batters and walking one while limiting Erie to just one run on two hits over seven innings pitched to pick up a win at Jerry Uht Park. Michael, who is currently tied for second in the league in wins (5), was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 19th round of the June 2000 draft out of Oneonta High School in New York.
