New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Norwich, CT - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (20-29) shut out the Connecticut Defenders (27-22) 4-0 Tuesday night at Dodd Stadium thanks to another strong outing from starter Ismael Ramirez (4-3).

Ramirez worked six scoreless innings, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out three. He lowered his league-leading ERA to 1.23 on the season. He pitched his way out of jams each inning as Connecticut stranded baserunners in five of his six innings, including leaving the bases loaded in the sixth.

New Hampshire went on top 1-0 in the second as right fielder David Smith hit a one out single and advanced to second on a ground out by shortstop Manny Mayorson. First baseman Vito Chiaravalloti delivered an RBI single to score Smith against Connecticut starter Jesse Floyd (1-5). They added three more runs in the third, all with two outs. Left fielder Adam Lind started the two out rally by singling, extending his hit streak to 11 games. Catcher Curtis Thigpen followed with another single to put two runners on. Designated hitter Chip Cannon then doubled, scoring Lind. Smith then delivered a two-run double, scoring both Thigpen and Cannon for a 4-0 lead. Floyd ended his night after allowing four runs on eight hits in five and a third innings.

Right-hander Rodney Ormond, lefty Jim Bullard, and righty Tracy Thorpe each threw a scoreless inning to finish the job. For Connecticut, righties Joe Bateman and Oscar Montero combined to pitch three and two thirds innings without allowing a hit to keep the game close. Smith finished the night with three of New Hampshire's eight hits.

The teams will play again tomorrow at 6:35 PM as right-hander Mike MacDonald (4-3, 3.27) goes for the Fisher Cats against right-hander Chris Begg (4-4, 3.62) at Dodd Stadium. The Fisher Cats return home to Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Tuesday, June 6 to begin a six game homestand against the Erie SeaWolves (Tigers) and Altoona Curve (Pirates).
